Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a way I can see if my child likes baseball before committing to the season?

Yes. Each year, we run two try T-ball/baseball days. These are free events where your child can try on a glove, have a throw and even test out their hitting skills all before committing to the season. These are held on a Sunday in July and August. Follow our Facebook or Instagram pages so you don't miss out.

My child knows nothing about baseball. Does that matter?

Many of our players join with no previous baseball experience. Our coaches focus on teaching skills in a fun and supportive environment, making it easy for children to learn and enjoy the game from day one.

Is baseball only for boys?

Definitely not! North Ryde RSL Junior Baseball Club welcomes players of all genders and abilities. Girls play alongside boys throughout junior baseball and have opportunities to participate at both club and representative levels.

What team will my child be placed in?

Teams will be formed after our second Try Baseball Day in August.

When creating teams, we consider a range of factors including your child's age, previous baseball experience, skill level and overall player numbers across the club. Where possible, we will also try to place children with friends or players they already know.

How many players are in a team?

Team sizes vary depending on registrations, but most teams consist of between 9 and 12 players.

Does my child need to attend a trial?

No. Most players do not need to trial.

Trials are only required for players wishing to be considered for a Division 1 team. Division 1 teams are made up of experienced players who have typically completed at least one season of baseball.

Where and when are games played?

Home games are played at Magdala Park, North Ryde.

Away games are played at a variety of local baseball grounds, generally within a 25-minute drive of Magdala. Locations may include:

  • Willoughby
  • Concord
  • Cherrybrook
  • Lilyfield
  • Ermington
  • Turramurra

Most games are played on Saturday mornings.

Division 1 teams play on Friday evenings at ELS Hall Park.

How long do games last?

Game length varies depending on the age group.

Typical game durations include:

  • T-Ball: approximately 1 hour
  • Rookie Live: approximately 90 minutes

Older age groups generally play longer games.

All players are expected to arrive before game time to warm up with their team.

What are the 26/27 season dates?

  • Season Starts: Mid-September
  • School Holiday Break: September
  • Season Resumes: October
  • Last Games Before Christmas: Late December
  • Season Resumes After Christmas: Late January
  • Grand Finals (Saturday Competitions): Mid-March

I have children of different ages. Can they play in the same team?

We understand many families would prefer siblings to play together.

While we will consider these requests wherever possible, placement will depend on age eligibility, player safety, skill levels and team numbers. Requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis and cannot be guaranteed.

When is training?

Training is held at Magdala Park on either Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, depending on the coach's preference.

Training sessions typically:

  • Start at approximately 5:00pm
  • Run for between 60 and 90 minutes

Your coach will confirm training details before the season begins.

What equipment is provided?

The club supplies teams with shared field equipment, including:

  • Bases
  • Catcher's gear
  • Batting tees
  • Helmets
  • Bats

Players are required to provide their own baseball glove.

As a special welcome, first-season T-Ball players receive a free glove.

The club also provides each player with a playing shirt.

Players will need to purchase:

  • Rams cap
  • Rams socks
  • Rams belt
  • White baseball pants

Club apparel is available through the club, while baseball pants can be purchased through Red Stitches or other baseball retailers.

I'd like to volunteer as a coach, manager or scorer. How can I help?

North Ryde RSL Junior Baseball Club is a volunteer-run community club and every team relies on parent volunteers.

Each team requires:

  • A Coach
  • A Team Manager
  • A Scorer

Some teams already have volunteers in place, but we are always looking for additional support as the club continues to grow.

No experience is necessary. Experienced coaches and scorers will help new volunteers feel prepared and supported throughout the season.

Coaching Requirements

All coaches must:

  • Hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Complete basic coaching accreditation

For T-Ball coaches, this involves a simple online course.

For Live Pitch coaches, an in-person coaching course will be organised through the club.

There is no cost to register as a volunteer.

If you'd like to help, please register as a volunteer using the club's volunteer registration form on the registration tab and reach out to us via the contacts tab.

Are there semifinals and grand finals?

Yes. All ages play a finals format competition. Finals take place in March.
